Morning, Monday.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! It doesn’t quite seem fair that another Monday is here again – boo! But I hope your Monday morning isn’t starting off with another migraine, yet again. Maxalt, come to the rescue! Anytime now..

I’m glad I meal planned and wrote out my grocery list before leaving Chicago. I had just enough time to swing by the grocery store on my way back into town and unload before heading off to hockey. Today is most certainly a rest day. Stairmaster on Friday with a long run on Saturday left my quads SCREAMING for relief during last night’s hockey game! Hockey is a great workout to have in my weekly repitoire of exercise. Unlike distance running and cardio machine workouts, hockey is explosive and requires every muscle in your body to perform duties not normally performed in most other forms of exercise. Balance and agility = hockey. Love it!

Mom Prevention spoiled me rotten this weekend with healthy recipes. Let’s start with dessert first! Great minds think alike because I bookmarked this recipe from Taste of Home last week, too.

Don’t you think Mom Prevention did an awesome job? She plated that piece of cake and everything. I’ll have to give her a hard time about no whipped topping, otherwise it would’ve looked JUST like Taste of Home’s pretty shot ;) But her dessert was more than worthy of a blog appearance, don’t you think?!

Prevention RD is continuing to undergo its face-lift. I received a few emails about some unavailable posts — I am looking into that. THANK YOU for bringing that to my attention, I greatly appreciate it! If you see something funky and have a second, shoot me a line!

My Maxalt kicked in…today may not be the worst Monday ever now! And Happy MLK Jr. Day – no class tonight! :-D I’m glad to be off tonight so I can recoup after the weekend travels!

Question: Do you like cherries? Anyone else off work for MLK Jr. Day?

Have a fabulous week, all!

So glad you’re feeling better! Not a cherry fan, but I can eat around those :) .

  2. I am a cherry fan…although I like them most in drinks, ha! A friend made some black forest cherry cookies for us a few months back, and they were out of this world.

  3. mmmm…beautiful cake! Printing it and putting it aside to make for Vday next month!
I like cherries. But I don’t like things that have artificial cherry flavor like Popsicles and lollipops and candies and pop…blech. enjoy the day off now that the migraine has passed!

  4. Wow, way to go Mom Prevention! This looks like magazine material. Impressive. I do love cherries, but I rarely eat them. There used to be a jar of cherries in my grandma’s fridge whenever we visited her, but now I rarely eat them (they are so darn expensive when fresh!!).
Glad the migraine is feeling better. Good thing you don’t have class! Today is my “hopefully last day” of being sick with a cold. Thankfully I’m off :) Wahhoo!!

Maxalt is the only thing that works for me!

Glad your Maxalt is kicking in. Here’s hoping it fends off any repeats later in the day.

  7. That cake sounds fantastic. I’m a big cherry fan, I have a freezer FULL of them. :)

  8. Melinda says:

That cake looks so good. I love cherries and I love them with chocolate too. There is a Portuguese liquor that is very popular called ginjinha, which is made from sour cherries, and then you drink the shot in a chocolate cup. It is really good. Then the local ice cream place makes cheery ice cream with chocolate bits in it to replicate the drink. I love it!

  9. I love fresh cherries and dried, but that’s really the only way. Chocolate and cherry was never my favorite. Your mom did such a great job with the cake though, it looks amazing!

  10. Faith says:

That is a gorgeous looking cake, Mom Prevention did a fantastic job! (And I just realized that it’s been waaaaay too long since I had Black Forest Cake…totally craving it now! ;) )

  11. I was off today! It is so nice to have a short week. I got in some good family time with the parents. That dessert looks delicious!

Loving how your site is looking by the way!

Cherries are great. I was off today and headed to Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s and, apparently, everyone else and their cousins went as well. Wow…

I wish that I knew how to play hockey. I would need to learn how to skate on ice first though.

  13. Sarah says:

That cake looks absolutely delicious! And I can’t believe the nutritional stats…I might have to make this ASAP.

I’m glad that your Maxalt kicked in! Personally I’m a huge fan of Excedrin plus water and coffee.

  14. Hi, just found ur blog and i love it! I subscribed immediately :) Feel free to check out mine!

  15. CaSaundra says:

Cherries and chocolate make the ultimate combo–it’s one of my favs for sure. I loooove the sounds of this recipe too–I am gonna have to try it ASAP!
