Oreo Cheesecake Cookies

The little town we live in has an outdoor ice rink that operates 4 months out of the year — Thanksgiving Day through March, weather pending. Being as it’s owned and operated by the city, I have been in pursuit of a contact person since we moved here back in July. I haven’t had the luxury of playing hockey minutes from home in a long, long, long time and have currently been driving 45 minutes (40+ miles) each way to play twice a week. It’s a part-time job in and of itself just to play hockey! Nevermind that the games are usually well into the nighttime hours.

So I showed up Monday night for my first game with my new team, of which I know not a soul. I had exchanged emails with the captain who said he would grab me a locker room key and have it ready for me…I should just come to the team locker room when I arrived. I did so and the captain was very nice, shaking my hand and thanking me for playing.

I got ready and on the ice. Warm-ups seemed pretty typical. I was on the second line of offense and within seconds of the drop of the puck, I knew that I was way out of my league. These guys could SKATE. These guys could SHOOT. These guys MIGHT…kill me (funny, but not kidding). I seriously considered ducking out with some lame excuse and never coming back.

Not before long, the left wing came off the ice and I went flying over the boards to join the game action. The first pass ricocheted off my stick from the sheer power behind the puck’s movement. Oops. Most of these guys had at least a foot on me, and based on the length of their strides, I have to assume most of those inches were in leg length. My tree trunks and I kept pumping along, trying to keep up. I huffed and puffed when I would return to the bench and not-so-successfully shoot a stream of water through the gate of my helmet and into my mouth, most of it dribbling down the front of my jersey.

I’m such a lady.

During one shift, we had a 3-on-1 and the goalie hadn’t frozen (held on to/covered) the puck and I nearly rebounded the puck into the net. Close, but no cigar. It was probably the closest I’ll ever get to scoring a goal with this team…

After the game, I retreated to my locker room with a very profound sense of, “What the H did I get myself into here?” I had my helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, and elbow pads off before there was a knock at my locker room door. I opened it and there was a woman standing there. “Eric would like to talk to you when you’re decent,” she said.

I popped out of the locker room all rosey-cheeked and covered in sweat. “Hey!” he said. “How was it?” he asked.

“Well, I didn’t die,” I reported. He laughed. I continued with something along the lines of, “If you guys want to drop me from the roster, I completely understand. I didn’t think that with a rink open only a few months out the year, the caliber of hockey player would be…so good.”

He laughed again. Kindly he responded with, “No way! We’re glad to have you! You got the schedule of all of our upcoming games, right?” I nodded.

“Awesome! See you next week then!” he said, shaking my hand. Nice guy. Hopefully the other guys feel a fraction of the same way.

When I got home late that night, Mr. Prevention wanted to know how my new hockey team was. My eyes bugged out of my head and I went on to explain in complete shock (still) that they are freakishly amazing and that I feared my life (and lungs) the entire time. He laughed.

I retreated for the kitchen and started scrounging around the fridge for something to eat. Sadly, having been gone for the holiday, we had no leftovers to choose from — a very rare occurrence in our house. I would’ve killed to have some reheated leftovers, but oh well. At least these cookies weren’t laying around because let me tell you, they’re unbelievably addicting. Mr. Prevention couldn’t keep his hands our of these and so, they too, got packaged up and sent to work for the bake sale two weeks ago. People went nuts for these…and I can fully understand why!

These Oreo Cheesecake Cookies look great, but what is it that gives the red color? The recipe says mini chocolate chips. Is it mini M&M’s instead? Please explain.

Hi Bobbi. Nothing red in these…must just be the coloring as they are just plain old mini chocolate chips!

Great story. It sucks to feel out of your league like that, but I bet playing with those guys is going to really push your skills to the max. And they still want you on the team, so they must have seen something good in your hockey abilities!

We have a couple of outdoor rinks here as well but I don’t think they’re open yet, unfotunately. Not that I can play hockey. . . or skate all that well, for that matter. But it’s fun to go out anyway.

Love the hockey story. I am fortunate that my rink is only 5 minutes away from my house, so I spend quite a bit of time there. Oh, and I’ll take a few dozen of those cookies too!

So here’s the REAL problem. Getting 8 Oreo cookies! Because this means buying a PACKAGE of Oreos (and there are certainly more than 8 of them) and then finding some way of off-loading them without eating them myself. This could be a most dangerous recipe.

You’re badass ๐Ÿ˜‰ I remember feeling the same way when playing on a men’s soccer team when I was studying abroad in Spain. They were way better than me AND I could barely understand them. Double whammy. Stick with it, girl!

I made these over the weekend for a Christmas party with a house full of boys that went crazy for these! The only change I made was using white chocolate chips instead of milk. These are GREAT, and super easy! Easily my new favorite cookie! yum! Thanks for the great recipe!

I made these for a Cookie Exchange Party (made 12 dozen). Didn’t realize they would be a very soft cookie. I refrigerated them prior to bagging up each half dozen for sharing with each party goer. It made it a lot easier. They were room temp for serving the two dozen meant for tasting at the party. THEY WERE SO GOOD. They are like a yummy dessert wrapped in a cookie. I never baked cookies before using parchment paper. I think it’s a great way to bake, and will use parchment paper in the future.

Don’t add the Chocolate chips or you can’t taste the cream cheese and use 4 oz not 3 oz
